Live Free Farm started in 2010 as a backyard covered in grass and overgrown pine groves. With the intention of one day turning that into vegetable gardens we employed two goats from Twisted Roots Farm in Shrewsbury, VT. Zedd and Violet do an excellent job of keeping unwanted growth at bay while simultaneously maintaining soil fertility.
To date we have had a slow but steady start. We have done enough to feed ourselves, some immediate family and some local community members with some fresh and safe to eat vegetables. In a community that has shown strong interest in stewardship and local agriculture we can only hope to find our niche as an entity who can supply healthy food to the public.
We currently only produce vegetables, but starting in 2013 we hope to have eggs and pork as one of our products as well.
*** In 2011 the only shed on the property burned to the ground. It has been a goal of mine to rebuild that shed. In the spirit of tradition, I plan on making this shed a timber framed building. All the timbers will be from locally harvested trees and hand hewn by myself. When all of the timbers are ready to be assembled my goal is to invite local community members to help in the raising of the shed.
